The Lemon Story

Real lemon. Not a fragrance chemical.

Most lemon-scented detergents use synthetic fragrance compounds that mimic citrus — manufactured chemicals hiding behind the single word "fragrance." We don't.

We use real cold-pressed lemon essential oil from the rind — extracted the same way lemon oil is used in food and aromatherapy, not synthesized in a lab. It's why Pure Lemon smells genuinely fresh instead of artificially sharp. Terpene-based botanical, no synthetic carriers, no phthalates, nothing undisclosed. What you smell is exactly what's on the label.

Real cold-pressed lemon essential oil — the scent in Pure Lemon laundry detergent
Real Essential Oil

Cold-pressed lemon oil. Nothing synthetic.

Cold-pressed from the rind

Extracted the same way lemon oil is used in food and aromatherapy — pressed from real lemon peel, not synthesized in a lab.

Terpene-based botanical

Naturally occurring terpenes in the oil itself — no synthetic fragrance carriers, no phthalate-containing fixatives.

Paraben & phthalate-free

No synthetic preservatives added to the fragrance. What you smell is exactly what's listed — nothing hidden.

Light — fades after drying

Fabric comes out clean and subtly fresh, not coated in fragrance residue. Bright in the wash, gentle after.

The Cleaning Engine

A 6-enzyme blend. More than any natural detergent.

Same scent you choose, same powerhouse formula underneath. Six enzyme classes — each engineered for a specific category of stain.

6
Targeted Enzymes · Active in Every Wash
1

Protease

Blood · Sweat · Grass · Dairy

Breaks down protein-based stains at the molecular level — the body soils ordinary detergent leaves on collars and sheets.

2

Amylase

Starch · Food Residue · Baby Formula

Cuts starch into water-soluble fragments that rinse away — stopping invisible buildup that traps other residue over time.

3

Lipase

Cooking Oils · Butter · Grease

Breaks lipid bonds so fats rinse cleanly instead of building up wash after wash — the leading cause of dingy-looking clothes.

4

Mannanase

Guar Gum · Thickeners · Sauces

Targets the gums and thickeners in processed foods — the sticky residues that make fabric feel stiff and look dull.

5

Pectate-Lyase RARE

Fruit · Tomato · Berry · Wine

Breaks down pectin-based stains — fruit, tomato, berry, wine, baby food. Particularly effective in cold water, where most enzymes underperform.

6

Cellulase RARE

Plant Fiber · Pilling · Brightness

Targets plant fiber and vegetable residue while smoothing pilling and restoring brightness — without optical brighteners or synthetic additives.

Most detergents use 1–2 enzymes. One enzyme can't clean everything your laundry actually contains.

Soft laundered fabric against skin — detergent held to a skincare standard
16
hours a day, against your skin

Your clothes touch your skin all day. Every day.

The residue from your laundry detergent stays on fabric after washing — and stays in contact with your skin the whole time you're wearing it. Synthetic fragrance. Optical brighteners. Surfactant residue.

That's not a laundry decision. That's a skin decision.

It's why we hold our detergent to the same standard as skincare.

Hard water — no adjustment

Laundry questions, answered.

Is the lemon scent synthetic fragrance or real essential oil?+
Real lemon essential oil — cold-pressed from the rind, terpene-based botanical, paraben-free and phthalate-free. No synthetic fragrance compounds. The scent is light and fades after drying. What you smell is exactly what's listed on the label.
Does Pure Lemon work in hard water?+
Yes. We updated the formula in March 2026 with sodium gluconate, a natural hard-water chelator from glucose fermentation. It binds calcium and magnesium ions before they leave mineral residue on fabric. Standard dosing works in hard water — no need to use more detergent.
Will the lemon scent stay on my clothes?+
The scent is intentionally light and fades after drying, leaving fabric subtly fresh rather than heavily perfumed. If you prefer a stronger lasting fragrance, Pure Lemon isn't the right choice — it's designed for people who want clean freshness without fragrance buildup on skin.
How much should I use per load?+
1 tablespoon for regular loads, 2 tablespoons for large or heavily soiled loads. With the updated hard-water formula, standard dosing works in hard water too — no need to increase. A standard tablespoon works if the scoop is misplaced.
Is this safe for sensitive skin?+
It's formulated without synthetic fragrance, optical brighteners, SLS, or microplastics, and designed to rinse clean without leaving residue. If you have highly reactive skin or fragrance sensitivity, our Unscented formula is the better choice.
Does Pure Lemon contain SLS?+
No. Pure Lemon contains no SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), no SLES, and no harsh synthetic surfactants. Cleaning action comes from our 6-enzyme blend, mineral boosters, and Ecosurf EH-9 — an eco-friendly surfactant system that cleans without the residue of conventional surfactant formulas.
Can I use this in HE washing machines?+
Yes — compatible with all HE and standard machines, top load and front load. The concentrated powder produces minimal foam, ideal for low-water HE machines. Use 1–2 tablespoons.

Thank you! I really like

"Thank you! I really like it and will definitely be returning for more. Since I do hand wash at home, and large laundry at the mat, I’ve only tested it on my hand washing so far. I’ve no doubt it’s going to work great at the mat. Also I just have to say y’all made opening the package feel like receiving a birthday present! And I love the surprise sample of the Blue soap. Will be ordering some of it with my next purchase. Gratitude for you and what you’re bringing to our planet. Laura ps: I forgot to say in my video about the “hardness” and alkaline quality of Water here in New Mexico, which definitely makes getting things clean more challenging. So to see good results with both the laundry and the dish soap is awesome. Also washing laundry by hand, and as you saw I’m not wearing gloves; my hands feel good, not dried out or needing moisturizer after washing my clothes or dishes. Thank you!"

"I have been using this laundry detergent for some time. All of the scents have been great. They aren't too strong. And you only need 1-2 small scoops of detergent for each wash. I think the sandlewood has been my favorite scent so far."
